Thing 23

Filed under: Uncategorized — corriefan @ 2:57 am

I have really enjoyed this program and rather wish it was continuing next year.  I have enjoyed sharing information with colleagues and “meeting” and communicating with colleagues who I might never have “met” otherwise.  The program really makes you think of the amount of interesting programs which exist that can make the learning process more interesting and collaborative. Thank you to everyone involved.  Your helpfulness and knowledge has been greatly appreciated.

Podcasting

Thing 21:  I found a video podcast of a show that I always forget to watch but really enjoy when I do.  By podcasting the show, I can catch up when I want. I have to say, I am beginning to enjoy my iGoogle page with my personalised feeds.  I just saw photos of a European royal marriage courtesy of my Hello! magazine news feed.  I might have missed this event had it not been for my RSS feed!

Using Technorati

I looked around for suitable blogs and subscribed to one, but know that this will now be forgotten.  The problem with information sharing today is that it is far too much OVERLOAD.  Why does everyone have the need to be connected?  Who has time to read through all of these blogs?  Who cares about a lot of the information?  My nephew had a blog with his friends rating the popular Singapore hawker dish of chicken rice.  They were amazed at how many hits their blog received on a daily basis, even though the purpose was to share their newly found places only with each other.

Digg.com

digg2As a news feed, I don’t think I would pursue with digg.com.  If I want to get news online, I would prefer to get it from a traditional news source such as a newspaper.  As a personal resource, online news sources are a great way of keeping up-to-date with local content if living overseas or even travelling for some time.  They also have beneficial educational uses, as a means of getting contemporary and relevant information for topics.  Despite not liking digg.com, I have added it as an RSS feed into my iGoogle page.

Updated Flickr

I have updated my flickr site with photos taken from my holiday in Sri Lanka and Singapore.  Singapore was particularly festive with Christmas decorations everywhere.  Coming back to Melbourne and the lack thereof of decorations is very disappointing.

Teaching Video

Filed under: Uncategorized — corriefan @ 5:05 am

This is a video I used to use from YouTube for teaching the concept of CRM software in the subject Information Sytems.  I thought it was pretty funny that one of the discussion messages said it was like something a lady teacher would show to the class!  They were right, it was! and although the students used to think that that comment was pretty funny after they would read it, the video really did help to illustrate the concept of a system that was quite abstract for students who had never been in the business world.  I will check out TeacherTube more often to see if they have useful videos.

RSS Feeds

Now I’ve added my favourite Hello Magazine and BBC Entertainment RSS feeds to my iGoogle page, I am much more likely to use this site.  I’ve also added other gadgets such as the currency converter.

Google Images

When I’m looking for an image, I usually just use Google and don’t particularly use Google images.  Anyway, here is a search for an image of another one of my destinations, Singapore and my favourite shopping strip of Orchard Road.
